ِAfter LASIK
What to expect
In general, you have a
very high chance of achieving 6/12 vision or better
after refractive surgery. More than 95 percent of people
who've undergone
lasik eye surgery no longer
need to depend on their glasses or
contact lenses most
of the time. Your results will depend on your specific
refractive error and other factors. People with a
low-moderate grade of
nearsightedness tend to have the most success with
refractive surgery. People with a high degree (over 6)
of
farsightedness along with
high astigmatism have less predictable results.
-
In the
first day, is normal for your vision to be blurry,
you feel sensitive to light and teary . This should
subside by the evening to a large extent, and
disappear within the first few days
-
In the following day, you
can normally carry out all your visual tasks and regular life
activities (excluding some sports mentioned below). Complete visual recovery
can take anywhere from 1-6 months.
-
Occasional dry sensation of the eyes is common in the first few months after LASIK. That is why we usually advise instilling artificial preservative-free eye drops during this period.
-
Some people experience
night glare and haloes around light. Dr Khalil,
however is noticing that this complaint has become
much less with his LASIK patients probably due to modifications in the
technique and newer technology.
- Scratchiness in the first few days.
- Patches of red or pink in the white of the eye are common in the first days. They are caused by the microkeratome suction and disappear completely by fewdays-2 weeks.
- Your eyelids may
be slightly swollen in the first day.
- Reading may be
difficult, initially (If you are over 40 reading glasses may be necessary.
